East End Shops

Batahn’s Technicks
Rabanastran (man speaking to other man at bookshelf): Technicks are skills that let you do things no magicks can. Stealing treasures from your foes, stanching wounds… Well, you should know!
Rabanastran (woman talking to red bangaa): My friend here was just telling me about the Salikawood, a great forest that lies beyond the desert, even the mountains. It was once part of the Kingdom of Nabradia, but no one has claimed it since Nabradia’s fall.
The Sandsea
Rabanastran (man sitting at table with woman): The marks from the hunts on the notice board are trouble enough, but I hear there are even tougher hunts out there… The really difficult hunts don’t go up on the boards at all. You can only find out about them through a clan. Huh, they must be some marks…
Tavernmaster: There was a bangaa from the Empire through here, said he was lookin’ for help with something… Can’t for the life of me remember what, though. I do remember he said he’d be out at Westgate. If you’re curious about what he wanted, you can always go ask him yourself.
Rabanastran (black bangaa at bar): Some paths may only be navigated on a chocobo. Not many, to be sure, but they’re there. You need a careful eye to spot ‘em.
Barkeep (man near base of stairs): There was a tremendous explosion in the west, yes? And the Rains have come to Giza, yes? Of course, it had been the Dry for some time… I suppose the one has nothing to do with the other, yes?
Barkeep (woman on balcony): I’m so glad all of our patrons can use the balcony again. Before the war it was such a lively place, but no so since the Imperials had come. If he never does another thing for us, I’ll still be grateful to our new consul.
Yugri’s Magicks
Rabanastran (woman in pink, yellow, and blue browsing bottles): D’you see that Imperial just there? Word is he was caught ducking his duties in the Sandsea and ordered to stand watch here instead.
Earnest Seeq: Wanted to try out me magicks, so I heads down to the Ozmone Plain. Saw me a garif, and bein’ as you don’t see ‘em every day, I a-followed him. Along the way we passes this cave, and curiosity gets the better of me. So I steps in, but the beasts in there… You best not even know! The garif kept right on past that cave, and he had the right of it.
Panamis’s Protectives
Rabanastran (man in tan and yellow browsing curio): Did you ever notice the guard on the second floor of the Sandsea? I think he may have been caught loafing about on the job. Now he’s been moved over to Yugri’s Magicks, but I doubt that will make any difference.
Rabanastran (red bangaa speaking to woman): Rain may fall and sandstorms may whorl, but I’ve not seen anything to match the coming of the Rains in Giza! The villages empty, and I’d swear the lay of the land itself seems to change! Neither the time nor the place to find yourself lost!
Amal’s Weaponry
Rabanastran (tan bangaa in green vest): Can’t say as I know for certain it’s Lord Vayne’s doing, but the guards do seem to be getting on better with people than they used to. You can be sure the guards aren’t too pleased by it. I’d hate to be whoever or whatever they’re taking their frustrations out on.
Sherral: In addition to my inspections, I’ve been assigned patrols as well. The combat can be trying, I’m not ashamed to admit. I suppose I had let myself grow soft… Mayhap this is just the proper medicine.
Amal: Take the Amal challenge! You’ll not find weapons of higher quality! [shop menu]
Migelo’s Sundries
Rabanastran (woman in pink top and headscarf): They lost contact with the Imperial Fleet out west of Rabanastre. They wouldn’t have flown into jagd, would they? That would be suicide.
Rabanastran (orange seeq): When I was growing up, I heard all manner of stories about the great hume-king Raithwall.
Rabanastran (man talking to tan bangaa): South of Giza Plains? That’s the northern tip of Kerwon. You’ll find races you’ve never even seen in Dalmasca down that way.
Rabanastran (woman in pink, green, and tan): Relations between Archadia and Rozarria haven’t been good. The Rozarrians couldn’t have been glad to see Rabanastre fall to Archadia.
Migelo: Making trouble with the Imperials, sneaking into the sewers… never know which way the wind blows with you, m’boy! Now you’re traveling the world! I won’t try to stop you, though. Just you be sure to look after Penelo while you’re at it, eh?

Rabanastre

Aerodrome

Flights to Bhujerba: Good day, sir. This counter serves travelers wishing to book passage to Bhujerba. We have ships fitted with shops and amenities, or if you prefer to sleep during your journey, ships with only private cabins. Whichever you choose, the price is the same. We will show you aboard as soon as you’ve purchased your ticket. Passage is 200 Gil. How would you like to travel?
>By leisure craft.

Thank you, sir. Enjoy your flight.
>By private cabin.
>I’ve changed my mind.

Do come again.
Bhujerban (man leaning against counter): Have you come to book passage on an airship, friend? Each counter serves a different destination. Pay your fare there. If a given counter is empty, that route is not currently in service, but give it some time and it should open again.
Southern Plaza
Rabanastran (boy in blue by westgate): Hey, Vaan. Penelo’s with you now, right? Phew! What a relief! I know we can count on you to keep her safe, no matter what happens!
Rabanastran (kid walking on south side of fountain): I was so worried about Penelo, I couldn’t even work. But thanks to you, everything’s back to normal again! Heh, heh.
Rabanastran (boy squatting against the wall by East End exit): I heard all about how you saved Penelo, Vaan. You’re practically a hero!
East End
Bucco: What’s that? Penelo’s with you? Phew! I guess all that talk about her bein’ kidnapped was just talk. I was worried for nothin’.
Migelo’s Sundries
Rabanastran (woman in pink and blue headscarf and top): I’ve heard the Imperial Fleet was gathering near Bhujerba. Do you think they were spying on Dorstonis?
Rabanastran (man talking to red bangaa): Migelo had been sulking about for a while, but he finally seems to have cheered up. Not sure why, but I’m not complaining.
Migelo: Ah, Penelo! You’re all right! Those sky pirates got you tangled up in some nasty business. [Penelo looks as though she has something to say; the scene fades out and back in] What!? Don’t tell me you’re off running about with those sky pirates, too! Vaan I can understand, but you, Penelo? …Ah, I see. I suppose I have been a bit over protective of you. It’s time you made your own decisions, your own mistakes. Do as you feel you must. Whatever trouble you might get yourselves into will only make you stronger, I’m sure. Yes, yes. [Vaan and Penelo look overjoyed] When you want to come back, you’ve only – No, no, you go about your adventures until you decide for yourselves it’s time. And until then, don’t worry yourselves about the shop or any of your friends. Just leave all that to Migelo, you hear? Now that that’s decided, we should get down to business. If you’ll be traveling, you’ll be needing sundries, yes? Well, sundries we have!
Migelo (x2): Keeping busy, are you, Vaan? You needn’t worry yourself about the store. I won’t be closing just because you aren’t around. No, there are plenty of other hard-working youths to pick up your slack. Off with you now! We’ll be here when you get back.
Yugri’s Magicks
Sotted Imperial: What’re you starin’ at? Come to have a good laugh, have you? Blast that rumor… The whole bloomin’ town’s talkin’ about it… But they’ve got it all wrong. I was given orders to stand watch at this shop. That’s why I don’t get over to the Sandsea as much as before, right?
The Sandsea
Tavernmaster: That Imperial’s finally left the place… and good riddance! Can finally get some peace ‘round here. That’s what people come to the Sandsea for!

Barkeep (woman on balcony): We won’t be seeing those Imperials around here anymore. The Consul’s implemented a new policy to see the watch behave as they’re meant to. I don’t think any policy will help that one Imperial, though. I hear he’s off hiding somewhere, in his cups as usual.

East End Shops

Amal’s Weaponry
Rabanastran (tan bangaa): There hasn’t been any official proclamation yet, but apparently some insurgents staged an assault on the palace the night of the fete. You could hear the commotion all over the city. It quieted down soon enough, though. Maybe it was just part of the night’s entertainment?
Imperial/Sherral: These weapons inspections may not seem like much, but they’re vital to restricting the supply of arms to insurgents and other undesirables. What would happen if powerful weapons should find their way to the insurgents? War, that’s what. So must we be ever vigilant.
Amal: Say, aren’t you the lad that minds Migelo’s shop when he’s busy? Poor thing… Oh, sorry. Must’ve confused you with someone else. No harm meant by it, boy. Now, how may I help you? [shop menu]
Panamis’s Protectives
Rabanastran (man browsing curio): The news of thieves in the palace had put a little spring in my step, but that was the last interesting thing to happen ‘round here. Peace and quiet is all well and good, but it can be rather dull.
Lively Bangaa: The Consul may have changed, but you wouldn’t know it to look out on the streets. Though I do suppose these things take time.
Panamis: We’ve a fine assortment of armors for the choosing. There’s sure to be something to tickle your fancy! Why, that’s a most unusual stone you’ve got there! Don’t suppose you’d be interested in sellin’? N-No, what am I saying! If I go off buying odd knickknacks again, me mum will have a fit! Now, where was I? Ah, yes! Armors! Armors for the choosing! [shop menu]
Yugri’s Magicks
Rabanastran (woman in blue, yellow, and pink browsing shelves): I’m sure you’ve heard about the insurgents who stormed the palace. It made me realize just how important it is to be able to defend yourself. All’s quiet now, but who can say what the future may bring?
Earnest Seeq: Magicks is a fickle mistress… I can’t make no sense of her. But sense or senseless, I done made up me mind to have at her, and let the chips fall where they may.
Yugri: Are you sure you shouldn’t be helping Migelo today? With him and Penelo out, poor Kytes is minding the shop by himself. Sorry, you came to shop, not to talk. [shop menu]
The Sandsea
Rabanastran (man sitting at table with woman): Those Imperials have finally left the balcony… I can’t remember the last time I sat down to a meal without knowing they were watching. If it feels this good to have them out of the Sandsea, imagine how good it would feel to be rid of them altogether.
Tavernmaster: A pair of what looked to be sky pirates came in just now. A viera and a hume… can you imagine?
Rabanastran (black bangaa chatting with Tomaj): You remember that hullabaloo the night of the Consul’s fete? The explosions, the airships… Well, they say it was over some thieves that broke into the palace, but I don’t fool that easy. They’re hidin’ somethin’, I know it.
Barkeep (man standing a foot of stairs): You’ve heard of Bhujerba, the skycity, yes? When I was young, I used to think if I could get to Bhujerba, I could become a sky pirate… Ignorance can be such bliss. Speaking of sky pirates, you should get a look at the fellow up on the balcony.
Balthier: I believe our business is finished, yes? Hadn’t you better say hello to all your little friends?
Fran: She must worry for you. Balthier’s handkerchief may dry her tears, but it cannot console her.
Balthier: That’s right. I’d prefer to get that back with as few tear stains as possible. Better hurry.

Balthier (x2): Well, hadn’t you better say hello to all your little friends? Surely someone will be glad to see you’re back.

Fran (x2): Surely you have somewhere else you should be. Does no one await your return?
Batahn’s Technicks
Rabanastran (woman speaking with moogle): I thought – Tomaj said – Weren’t you captured and sent to Nalbina? …You escaped!? You? I shouldn’t have written you off so easily. Have you said hello to Migelo or Penelo yet? Poor Penelo’s been inconsolable since you left.
Rabanastran (woman chatting with red bangaa): The Consul’s begun making changes throughout the city. Who knows, there may even be new jobs to be had. I may start looking for one myself.
Batahn: Ah, Vaan. You haven’t seen Penelo lately, have you? No, no, I don’t need her for anything in particular. Usually she’s stopped in to see if there are any chores need doing by now, and I was curious why she hadn’t is all… Now, what can I get for you? [shop menu]

East End Shops

Batahn’s Technicks

Rabanastran (woman speaking with red bangaa): The parade was wonderful, don’t you think? Just hearing the Consul speak, you could tell he’s a man of power and influence.

Rabanastran (woman in blue, red, and pink speaking with moogle): I hear you hunted down the Rogue Tomato and even made it over to the clan hall. Coming along fast, kid.

The Sandsea

Rabanastran/Gatsly: I’m at my wit’s end. If that shipment doesn’t get through… I don’t know what I’ll do. There has to be a hunter out there who’ll do it…

Rabanastran (man sitting at table with woman): I saw you lookin’ at the notice board a while back. How did your hunt go? Well, I’m glad to hear it! You started your next hunt yet? Let me know how it turns out!

Barkeep (woman in white standing by notice board): Never hurts to keep a close eye on the notice board. At worst, you can look over your current hunts, and at best, you may find a new one!

Tavernmaster: How are things with you, Vaan? With all the food and drink orders for the fete, I can’t complain, heh heh.

Tomaj: Ah, Vaan! Defeated that Rogue Tomato, did you? I was worried you might not be ready just yet, but you did a fine job of it! Here. Your bounty for completing the hunt.
[Red & Rotten in the Desert: 300 gil, x2 Potion, x1 Teleport Stone]

[If you visited the Clan Hall after he gave you the Primer...]

Oh, I hear you stopped by the clan hall. You’re one shrewd customer. I’m sure you heard all manner of things from the other hunters, but just take your time to ease into it and you’ll do fine.

[If you didn't visit the Clan Hall...]

You followed through on that hunt like a real professional. I'm gonna let you in on a little something to help you along... Did you ever notice a bangaa standing watch in front of a building in the North End? It might be worth your time to pay him a visit. Show him the clan primer I gave you. He'll let you inside. As for what's there... you'll just have to go see for yourself.

[After this, Tomaj will go back to his "Hi, Vaan. Something I can help you with?" dialogue.]
Rabanastran (black bangaa at bar with Tomaj): ‘Course I didn’t watch the parade. What’s the point in watchin’ the Imperials march about, proud as they please?

Barkeep (man in brown shorts near foot of stairs): Now that the gates are open again, I went to collect some goods, but I, uh, encountered a slight difficulty. Entirely my own fault. I was supposed to go to Giza Plains, but I left by the east gate instead of the south gate. (sigh) What a waste of time.

Sotted Imperial: Just who do you think you are? The balcony is reserved for the Imperial watch. You can toast the new consul from downstairs, boy.

Yugri’s Magicks

Rabanastran (woman in blue, yellow, and white): I’m studying magick so I can protect myself, if I must. It’s not that I don’t trust the new consul, but we each have a duty to keep our city safe.

Panamis’s Protectives

Lively Bangaa: We’re talking about this new consul. He seems a not-so-bad fellow, well-informed and capable.

Rabanastran (man browsing curio): The Consul has gotten off on the right foot. I’ve high expectations of him.

Panamis: Interest you in a piece of armor? If there’s aught to your liking, I’ll have it brought ‘round. But don’t dawdle, I’ve plans for the evening. [shop menu]

Amal’s Weaponry

Imperial/Sherral: Fortunately, His Excellency the Consul has arrived without incident. Naturally, I kept up my weapons inspection throughout the ceremony. A moment of weakness or indiscretion can undo a lifetime’s work. History’s replete with examples of such. Our duty is to enforce the law unerringly.

Amal: Welcome, welcome! I’ll be closing the store early tonight… Special circumstances, you know. Heh, heh. Should be quite an evening, yes. [shop menu]

Migelo’s Sundries

Rabanastran (woman in pink with headscarf): Don’t the Imperials have better things to spend money on than parades? How about putting some meat in our stewpots for starters?

Rabanastran (woman in pink, green, and tan): Migelo was really groveling at the ceremony. Embarrassing it was, yes, but you get the feeling he was only doing what he had to do. There are times to wear your pride, and there are times to swallow it. The trick is recognizing which is which.

Penelo: Migelo’s out getting ready for the fete. Do you think he’ll really call the new consul by his first name? I think he’d sooner die.

Rabanastran (orange seeq): Hrmph. This consul sounds a mite better than the last. ‘Course, I won’t believe it till I see it.

Rabanastran (man speaking with bangaa): Let’s see, what is it you’ve got bubbling away in that head of yours… Maybe you’re planning to sneak into the fete tonight, eh? Ha ha! Of course you aren’t! Even you wouldn’t do something as foolhardy as that.

Previous: East End

The Sandsea

Vaan: There you are, Kytes. Stop loafing around!
Kytes: Look, Vaan, look! This is it! This is why Migelo’s courier didn’t get here on time!

Vaan: “Creature spotted in the Estersand.” What is that thing?

Tomaj: Ah, Vaan. Migelo send you, too, did he? He’s a busy man these days, that Migelo, if I dare say so myself. I don’t envy him the work, though. Not a bit. Quite an affair, throwing a banquet to welcome the Imperials, eh?
Vaan: Welcoming? We should be – ah, whatever. Say, Tomaj, what’s this?

Tomaj: Ah, don’t remind me. Got some nastiness out there in the Estersand what’s stopping our couriers… and that means shortages all around. Thought I’d put up a bill… offer a reward to anyone who can knock that nasty back in its place.

Vaan: Now that’s work. Sounds ten times better than running errands for Migelo.

Kytes: That’s right! Vaan, you should give it a shot!

Vaan: And you should be getting back to Migelo. Now, Kytes. He was waiting for you.

Kytes: Oh! Right, right.

Tomaj: So here’s how it works. People post bills here on the notice board when they have a monster they need taken care of. Headhunters track people, right? Well, hunters track monsters. The monster you’re hunting is called your mark. Here’s the bill I posted for the Rogue Tomato, the mark I’ve petitioned to have hunted. Do you want to hear all the details?
>Yeah, that would help.
Let’s start with accepting hunts. You can’t just take a look at the board, then go running off to hunt the mark. You’ll miss out on the bounty. You gotta talk to the person who posted the bill - the petitioner - first. Let him know you’re going on the hunt. So, take this Rogue Tomato bill, for example. I posted it, so I’m the petitioner. You have to come talk to me. Let’s call that step “done,” okay? Once your agreement’s in place, the petitioner will tell you how to find the mark. Then you hunt it, report back, and claim the bounty. Oh, and I’ll give you something to help keep track of your hunts: a clan primer. Use it to refresh your memory about hunts you’ve accepted.
[You obtain a Clan Primer!]
[Clan Primer has been added to the Party Menu.]
Go ahead and take this, while you’re at it. Just a little something to commemorate your first hunt.
[You obtain an Orrachea Armlet!]
Hmm, looks like you can’t equip that yet. Know why? You don’t have the license for it. Think of licenses as mile posts, marking your progress as your combat skills improve. Swords, bows, black magicks, white magicks… none of it does you a lick of good until you have the license to use it. Same goes for that armlet. Tomaj, how can I equip this great treasure you’ve bestowed on me, you ask? Easy: learn by doing. Let’s give it a try.
[License Board Tutorial]

You can acquire a new license anytime you like from the Party Menu. First, decide whose licenses you want to examine. I don’t see anyone else here, so it looks like that means you, Vaan

This is the license board. The license board shows which licenses you already have, as well as some new ones waiting to be obtained. Licenses you’ve acquired are marked with a star.

Looks like right now you can equip Leather Clothing, Leather Caps, and Mythril Swords, and you have the technick to Steal from your foes. Heh, still a little wet behind the ears. We all have to start somewhere, though. The more licenses you have, the more equipment you’ll be able to use, and the more abilities you’ll have to choose from.

But a license alone isn’t enough. Did you notice how Mythril Blade was darkened? That’s because you don’t have one in your inventory. You’ll need to buy magicks from a magick shop, and arms from a smithy before you’ll be able to put those licenses to use. It doesn’t matter which you get first, magicks and equipment, or the license to use them, so long as you have both. You can use any magicks and technicks in your possession as soon as you acquire the necessary license. But you’ll have to equip weapons and armor before they’ll do you any good. Got it?

All right, let’s take a look at that number in the top left. These are your license points. You spend these points to acquire new licenses. You can acquire any license that’s next to one you already have, but only if you have enough license points.

Ah, this should do! Why don’t you try obtaining this license now? Select the license and press X. They you’ll have the Accessories 1 license.

Now you shouldn’t have any trouble equipping that orrachea armlet I gave you. Just don’t forget to equip it, okay? You probably noticed already, but when you obtained that license, several new ones appeared on the board.

You don’t have enough license points to obtain any more now, but take down a few monsters and you’ll have the points before you know it. Don’t be in a hurry to spend all your points, though. Think about which licenses you really need, or you might regret it later. Oh, let me show you one thing while I’m at it. Go ahead and press □.

That list shows all of the actions you can take during battle. It can definitely come in handy. Well, if you can remember all that, you shouldn’t have any trouble taking down a mark or two on your own.

[Licenses has been added to the Party Menu.]

I’d say you’re ready to hunt that mark for me. Oh, you’ll be needing this to leave the city. Just show it to the watch at the gate.

[You obtain a Writ of Transit!]

The east gate’s the one you’ll want to head out. Once you’ve taken care of that mark for me, let me know. Your work won’t go unrewarded.

>No, I think I got it.

All right, but I’ll be expecting you to take care of that Rogue Tomato for me. Oh, and I’ll give you something to help keep track of your hunts: a clan primer. Use it to refresh your memory about hunts you’ve accepted.

The east gate’s the one you’ll want to head out. Once you’ve taken care of that mark for me, let me know. Your work won’t go unrewarded.
Tavernmaster: How are you, Vaan? That creature in the desert has us chasing after supplies from dawn till dusk. Someone better do something, and quick.

Rabanastran (man in hat sitting with a woman at a table): I hear there’s a mark out in the Estersand. ‘Course, the Imperials are too busy securing the city to worry over troubles beyond her walls.

Tomaj: Hi, Vaan. Something I can help you with?
>Tell me about marks.
Marks are monsters that a petitioner posts a bill to have hunted. Successfully hunting marks will earn you a small bounty. See that notice board over on the wall? That’s where you can go to see what bills have been posted. It all starts there. But just looking at the bill isn’t enough. You have to go talk to the petitioner and accept the hunt before setting out. The bill will always tell you where to find the petitioner. Once you’ve accepted the hunt, you’re ready to track down the mark using the information given to you by the petitioner. If you’re able to defeat the mark, report back to the petitioner. That completes the hunt, and you should receive your bounty. Simple, right? The best way to learn is by doing. Hunt a few marks on your own and you’ll have it down in no time.
You’ll never find that Rogue Tomato standing around in here. The Imperials have started locking down the gates for the parade, but you ought to be able to get out if you show them that writ I gave you. Just talk to the watch by the east gate in the Southern Plaza. You shouldn’t have any trouble.
>Tell me about licenses.
Each and every battle-related ability has a license that entitles you to use it. Say you want to cast the white magick “Cure.” You have to obtain the license for it first. The same is true of equipment. Even the most devastating weapon won’t do you any good if you don’t have the license to equip it. The licenses you have determine how you can fight, so think before you choose.
You’ll never find that Rogue Tomato standing around in here. The Imperials have started locking down the gates for the parade, but you ought to be able to get out if you show them that writ I gave you. Just talk to the watch by the east gate in the Southern Plaza. You shouldn’t have any trouble.
>No, thanks.

Rabanastran (black bangaa at bar): A parade to install this new consul? Fie! They’re just lookin’ fer an excuse to flaunt their might. Well, let the fools strut, I say!

Barkeep (woman leaning against wall by door): Have you seen how many guards they’ve stationed in the Southern Plaza? I suppose it makes sense… That is where the city gates are. If you find yourself by Migelo’s, you should take a look. Not every day you see that many Imperials in one place.

Barkeep (man standing near foot of stairs): I heard you could still leave the city through the east gate, but when I tried to pass, I was turned away. Turns out they’re only letting through people on business for the fete. Would it kill them to bend the rules? I hope they didn’t hear that…

Barkeep (woman pacing second floor): I’m sorry, but the balcony is reserved for members of the Imperial watch. Or so they’ve decided, at least. They’re nothing more than two-bit sellswords, if you ask me.

Sotted Imperial: Who gave you leave to come up here, boy? The balcony’s reserved for the Imperial watch, you hear?
