Giza Plains (Dry) - Nomad Village

Arjie: Well, hello! The wary traveler never passes the chance to restock his supplies. [shop menu] I used to live in Rabanastre, before I met my husband. Then I moved here. I only get to see him during the Rains, but I’m happy all the same.
Camina: The tree what was blockin’ the path to Kerwon’s finally gone. And it’s a good thing, too. Lots of herbs we can’t find no other place. Are you goin’ to Ozmone Plain? I haven’t been too far that way, but the monsters sure look tough.
Tott: Little while ago, the whole west sky lit up in a flash. Only lasted for a second. Wonder what that was…
Nutsy: An elemental was chasing me, kupo! The rain was pouring down, and I could feel my fur crickle-crackle when it came near. Horrifying! Would you like to buy a map, kupo?...
Roaklo: I really wanna go see Ozmone Plain. I hear there are all these old ruined airships just waitin’ to be explored… I get excited just thinkin’ about it!
Nanau: I thought my little brother had been working hard lately, but now i find out he’s just been planning to sneak off to Kerwon. Can you believe it?
Masyua: Don’t often get visitors in this heat. What is it?
>Can you tell me about sunstones?
Did you notice the dark crystals? They again shine with light. No small thanks to the fine weather we’ve enjoyed these past days. Are you interested in making some sunstones?
>Sure, why not?
>How do I make sunstones?
>No, thanks.
You’re always welcome, if you change your mind. We pay well for stones of a high grade, should you need a few extra gil.
>Nothing, sorry.
The garif live to the south, in northern Kerwon. They are an ancient race, who live by the ways of their ancestors. They wear masks from the day they’re born until the day they die.
Jinn: I saw ‘em bringing a bunch of hurt Imperials to Rabanastre. I thought the war was supposed to be over? My family was killed in the war… But Brunoa brought me to live here. I don’t wanna see anyone else get hurt.
Lesina: Have you been to the garif village? Our elder and their chieftain go way back, but they haven’t seen each other in a cockatrice’s age. I make trips to their village to trade sunstones for medicinal herbs, hides… you name it. And the kids just love that nanna cheese they make.
Elder Brunoa: They tell me the fallen tree blocking the road to Kerwon was washed away by the Rains. The way south through Starfall Field is open. If you’re heading that way, see you’re well provisioned before setting out. Changes in the land mean changes in the beasts that walk them.
Elder Brunoa (x2): I was walking through the plains several days past when I was overcome by the feeling some great power had been lost. I pray it is no ill omen.
Terra: The cockatrices aren’t lookin’ so good lately. Can’t you tell? You gotta look close. And poor Dania… I wish there was something I could do to help out.
[Examine any one of the cockatrices…]
Cockatrice: (It looks a little down in the beak.)

Giza Plains

Withered Tree: The tree is dry and brittle.
>Strike the tree.
>Do nothing.
Throne Road: The tree drifts slowly to the south.
Nomad Village: The tree drifts slowly to the southeast.
Toam Hills: The tree drifts slowly to the southeast.
Starfall Field: The tree drifts slowly to the east.
Giza’s North Bank: The tree drifts slowly to the south.
Crystal Glade: The tree drifts slowly to the east.
Tree Stump: The tree that stood here has drifted off to the [direction].

[Investigate the makeshift bridge of trees in Giza’s South Bank, before striking all the trees...]

Entangled Wood: With a few more pieces of driftwood, it should be possible to cross to the other bank.
Nomad Village
Quiet Man/Sadeen: South of… Starfall Field… There. The plain…
Tiny Wayfarer: Well this is perfect. I forgot everyone leaves the village during the Rains. I’m a blundering fool, kupo! What’s that? A sad-lookin’ man, kupo? Haven’t seen anyone matchin’ that description ‘round here, kupo.
Weary Seeq: Phew! Just came from Ozmone Plain. I’m dead tired. Not all that far, no… Just keep makin’ your way south through Giza. Head out the village here and you’re on your way. (snort) There’s a garif village out on the west end of the plain. Mind yourself if you head out that way, though. The creatures there are murder.

Giza Plains, The Dalmascan Estersand, and Nalbina Town

Giza Plains
Nomad Village
Tott: Our fathers have gone stone-digging. That’s why the only adults here are all women. Bet you were wondering where all the men went!
The Dalmasca Estersand
Outpost
Dantro: Even a small outpost like ours can mean the difference between life or death in the desert. We see quite an assortment of travelers through here. Keeps things interesting, at least. Not interesting enough for me to want to be here all day, though. Why hasn’t the village sent out my replacement?
Nalbina Town
Jajim Bazaar
Gambitry Banner: Find gambits difficult to grasp? So did I, until I opened this shop. Now I’ve got a perfect gambit for everyone, even you!
Morning Star Gambits: Never shoulda opened my shop in this heat. Buy something, will ya? [shop menu]
West Ward
Imperial (standing at the door of the aerodrome): You looking for the aerodrome? I’ll take you. Citizens are only allowed in sections of the fortress.
>Go along.
Right, then. This way.
>Decline.
If you want to go to the aerodrome, speak with me. You’ll need an escort.
Aerodrome
Imperial (at entrance): Headed into town? I’ll escort you. Much of the fortress is off-limits.
>Go along.
>Decline.
Come back should you decide to go into town. You’ll need an escort.
Imperial (speaking to two men and bangaa): They came here to work and earn a good wage rebuilding the fortress, and now they complain! I’ve had enough of these people.
Itinerant Hand (man in group of two men, bangaa, and Imperial): I came here to work on restoring the fortress, but it’s soooo hot! I can’t work in these conditions! If we’re to work out here, we need good coin. That’s what my bangaa friend here’s negotiating for.
Shy Bangaa: Wh-What…? I’m just watchin’ these goods, like always… Hey, no stealin’, you hear?
Homebound Man: I came out here from Rabanastre to earn some gil to make my wife and child happy… but I can’t take this hard labor no more… Hi, honey. It’s me… the failure. (sigh)
Itinerant Hand (black bangaa at window): Far to the east lies a port town where sky pirates gather. I’ll be one, someday, and that’s where I’ll ago. Just need to make some gil first.

Crystal Glade & Nomad Village

Crystal Glade

Jinn: Hey, you’ve got a sunstone! Let’s take a look. Hmm, seems okay to me. Not bad for city folk. So here’s what happened. Masyua’s always warning us to stay away from the werewolves, right? Well, a bunch of us decided we’d have a little contest – see who’s the bravest. It started out as a lark, but Tott said that none of us kids living on the plains should be scared of monsters… I guess I got carried away. Don’t let any of the grown-ups know, though, okay?
Anyway… my leg’s feeling better now. Let’s head back to the village. I’ll race ya – try and keep up!
[The scene will automatically change back to the Nomad Village.]

Nomad Village

Masyua: Jinn made it back home safe and sound. He is a good boy, but how his mind wanders! He never thinks of the worry it causes me! I’m sorry if he was any trouble. Please, take these with my thanks.
[You obtain 50 gil!]
[You obtain 2 Potions!]
[You obtain 2 Teleport Stones!]
Jinn gave you a sunstone, yes? I hope it may be of some help to you.

Masyua: Has the sunstone been of use? Jinn makes very high quality stones – they always fetch a good price. You’re fortunate you came when you did: the crystals do not always shine. Many have come seeking sunstones only to leave empty-handed.

Masyua (x2): There is much work to be had on the plains. When light returns to the crystals, you might try your hand at making sunstones.

Jinn: I expected Masyua to get a little upset, but it seems like I really worried her. She was even madder than I thought she’d be. She just stood there, all quiet. Really had me scared! Heh.

Elder Brunoa: I’m glad to see you were able to find a sunstone for yourself. Heading back to Rabanastre soon, then? Come visit us whenever you like. We will be here until the coming of the Rains.

Terra: Jinn isn’t originally from here, you know. Brunoa brought him from Rabanastre. She says he’s another orphan of the war. But here we’re all treated the same, so what difference should it make? Maybe it still bothers him. Or maybe it bothers me…

Camina: Can you believe it? Tott and Roaklo left Jinn to fend off that werewolf by himself! Those little – they’re such… cowards!

Tott: Worried? About Jinn? Not me. Nobody knows Giza Plains better than we do. Gotta make these sunstones fast, and they gotta be good, too. That’s what Masyua says. I guess she knows what she’s talkin’ about.

Roaklo: Jinn and Tott started fighting near one of the crystals. We were all caught up with the fight, and that’s when the werewolf came. We got split up while we were trying to get away… Shoulda been more careful, I know. Now I have my sister mad at me, and Masyua, too! I think they’re going a bit too hard on me.

Nomad Village

Camina: Those two must’ve gotten into a fight again, no doubt about it. That Jinn… always getting into trouble!
Terra: But this time Roaklo was with them, too. I wonder what’s going on?
Camina & Terra: Hmm…
Terra: Roaklo, Tott, and Jinn went out onto the plain, but Jinn still hasn’t come back. To tell the truth, I’m a bit worried.
Camina: Something’s up, but Roaklo and Tott aren’t talking. They don’t have to, though. It’s written all over their faces.
Terra & Camina: Hee hee!
Elder Brunoa: You’ve a troubled look, child. What’s the matter? Ah, come from Rabanastre seeking a sunstone, have you? As you might have guessed from the name, sunstones contain the power of the sun. You’ll often find them used as a source of heat or light. Here we leave all things sunstone to Masyua. You should be able to find her near the dark crystal. Do you see the large black stone behind my tent? That is a dark crystal. You’ll not be able to find them outside Giza Plains. The dark surfaces of the crystal drink in the light of the sun.

Elder Brunoa (x2): You need a sunstone, yes? Best speak with Masyua about that. She should be just behind my tent.

Masyua: Have you come to see the dark crystals? Not everyone takes well to the heat of the Giza Plains. …Ah, so it is a sunstone you seek! You’ve come to the right place. They can only be made here in Giza. They’re quite valuable, though, so we can’t go handing them out to just anyone who happens to wander through our camp. You see, we make and sell sunstones to earn the money we need to survive. Still, perhaps we can come to some arrangement… Would you hear my offer?
Sure.
>The making of sunstones is a chore we give to the children of our camp. They roam the plains, traveling from dark crystal to dark crystal, drawing the light from the crystals into shadestones. One of these children, Jinn, has not yet returned. He left carrying our supply of shadestones. If you’ll find Jinn for me and tell him to come back to the camp, you may take one of the sunstones he’s made in return. Some of the children said they might have seen him to the south of the camp. You may want to speak with them yourself before leaving. Please, find Jinn and tell him to return at once.
[After this, the next scene will automatically begin.]
No, thanks.
>Of course. Our troubles need not concern you.
Masyua (x2) (after refusing): Seems you haven’t given up on finding a sunstone just yet. But as I said, we do not part with the fruits of our labors lightly. If you are serious, then hear my offer.
What’s your offer?
>The making of sunstones is a chore we give to the children of our camp. They roam the plains, traveling from dark crystal to dark crystal, drawing the light from the crystals into shadestones. (Walking around the village, Vaan notices Penelo kneeling with some of the kids.)

Vaan: Penelo? What are you doing here?

Penelo: I could ask you the same! Though the answer’s pretty clear: no good.

Vaan: What? I’m being good.

Penelo: Hmm. Is that right? So, then, you wouldn’t mind if I, say, tagged along, would you? Oh, don’t worry. Migelo’s busy with preparations for the fete up at the palace. Why, I’m free for the whole day. Well? Let’s get going!

[Penelo joins the party!]

Camina: Guess what! I saw Jinn off in the south part of the plains – in the Crystal Glade. He was right by a small crystal. I asked if he wanted to come back to camp with me, but he said he still had some work to finish up. The Crystal Glade is to the south of our village. Just head out into Giza Plains and wind your way south. We take breaks in the glade, since monsters seem to stay away from it. I was a little worried because Jinn looked like he might have been hurt, but I was afraid to push him too hard to come back. Now I’m wondering if I did the right thing.

Camina (x2): I saw Jinn in the Crystal Glade. We take breaks in the glade sometimes, since monsters seem to stay away from it. The Crystal Glade is to the south of our village. Just head out into Giza Plains and wind your way south.

Tott: We all went out to make some sunstones, but Jinn still hasn’t come back to camp. It’s the first time he’s been out on the plains since the end of the Rains. Maybe he got a touch of wanderlust.

Roaklo: Jinn still isn’t back? Masyua’s gonna let us have it for sure. I knew he shouldn’t have – nothing. Never mind. Well, ya see, Jinn and Tott kinda got in a fight. Then while they were busy fighting, a werewolf came along and… I hope he’s okay.

Masyua: Please, find Jinn and tell him to return to camp. One of the children, Camina, saw him. You should speak with her before leaving. And be careful – werewolves stalk the southern plains. If you see one approaching, run. It would make short work of you.

Terra: Sure, I know Jinn. Brunoa was complimenting the sunstones he made, and I think it made Tott jealous. I just don’t get it. Why can’t they just get along with each other?

[When you go to leave the village...]

Penelo: Hey, Vaan. Let me give you these before we go. There are all sorts of monsters out there, so you can never be too careful!

[You obtain 3 Potions!]

[You obtain 2 tufts of Phoenix Down!]

So far you’ve been traveling by yourself, but now that I’m here we can travel as a party. You can give commands to allies in your party just like you’ve been doing for yourself up to now. I’ll make my own decisions about what to do, too, but you can also give me specific commands and I’ll take care of those first. Got it?
[You can now change leaders and issue party commands!]

Oh, one more thing! If you don’t want me to fight on my own, you can always turn my gambits off. With my gambits turned off, I won’t do anything until you give the word. You should really think about using gambits for yourself, you know. They can make managing a battle a lot easier.
[Gambits has been added to the battle menu.]

Well, you ready to go?

[When you exit by either the east or west ways…]

Penelo: Vaan, wasn’t Jinn supposed to be somewhere to the south of the village? If we work our way around, we should find him!

[When you exit by the north way…]

Penelo: Vaan, I think that Jinn was supposed to be somewhere to the south of the village. We might find him faster if we headed a different way.

Giza Plains

Nomad Village

Cartographers’ Guild/Nutsy: I’m just a traveling moogle, trying to scrape by. I should be here while the Dry holds, kupo. But the monsters during the Rains are too scary! The Dry should last a while longer, but take care during the Rains, kupo. Those big lightning balls don’t mess around. Would you like to buy a map, kupo?
[Giza Plains  -  30

So long, kupo!
Nomad Youth/Tott: Hey there. We don’t see many travelers through here. If there’s somethin’ you’re lookin’ for, you should talk to our elder. She’s over by the tent.

Nomad/Arjie: Well, hello! The wary traveler never passes the chance to restock his supplies. [shop menu] The children still work, even in this heat. I guess I should try to follow their example.

Nomad Youth/Camina: I’m in charge of seeing all the herbs and roots we gather in the plain are properly dried and stored. We use charms made from the herbs to keep the monsters away while we’re out. Used a whole lot during the Rains, so we need t’ pick more!

Nomad Youth/Roaklo: Sorry, but could you come back later? Gotta finish work, or I can’t play!

Nomad/Nanau: You’ve come from the city? Our village may be small, but you are welcome here. Our village moves with the seasons. When the Rains come, Giza fills with water, so we cannot stay.

Nomad/Masyua: Have you come to see the dark crystals? Not everyone takes well to the heat of the Giza Plains. We don’t have much to offer, but you’re welcome to rest here, if you like. These dark crystals absorb the light of the sun, until they shine with a brilliant light. People are always surprised just how bright they shine.

Nomad Youth/Jinn: Most of us out here work at makin’ sunstones or raisin’ cockatrices. We won’t get much work done once the Rains come. Gotta make the best of the Dry now!

Nomad/Lesina: The men are off on their business, while we women mind the village. Even the children do their part. They make their mistakes, of course, but they learn from them!

Nomad Youth/Terra: I heard wild cockatrices can roll real fast. But these ones don’t roll around at all… You think they’re just lazy?

Nomad/Dania: Don’t worry, they won’t bite! These cockatrices are as tame as can be. Aren’t they just the fluffiest, cutest things you’ve ever seen?

Cockatrice (little one): (It stares at you with beady eyes…)

Cockatrice (little one): (It looks like it wants to tell you something. Then again, maybe not.)

Cockatrice (medium one): (It doesn’t shy at your approach. It seems tame.)

Cockatrice (medium one): (It looks like it has an itch on its back.)

Cockatrice (medium one): (It looks like it wants to be left alone.)

Cockatrice (big ‘un): (It looks hungry.)

Nomad Elder/Elder Brunoa: It can get quite hot here in Giza, but it’s not all that bad if you can find a nice spot in the shade. Take care before heading out to the plains. Our children don’t leave without making the proper preparations. Neither should you.

Elder Brunoa (x2): Don’t go out to the plains unprepared. Speak with Arjie before you go if there’s anything you need.
